On Saturday 22nd August we held a travelling promotion day to spread the news of our upcoming Covid and Beyond Project which begins on 5th September. We called at Tywardreath Butter Market, St Blazey c
o-op and then Par Community Garden, meeting and signing people up to the wide and varied programme of FREE creative workshops and activities that will be on offer between September and Easter 2021.
The aim of Covid and Beyond is to provide people with a programme of FREE creative workshops and activities to help raise the spirits of our community and improve mental wellbeing as we continue to move through these uncertain times. Everything will be online initially (and we’ll provide activity sheets for those with no internet access), then, in accordance with lockdown rules, we hope to eventually shift workshops to local venues where Covid safety procedures will be closely adhered to at all times. The wide and varied options available offer something for people of every age and ability, and ALL local residents of Par Bay are invited to take part, with friends and relatives from further afield also being most welcome.
We hope that the eight month programme will give people opportunities to tell their own Covid recovery story in a variety of ways; through artistic expression, creatively and vocally. Then, at the end, all individual creations, plus a giant commemorative pitcher and a tapestry sail of heroes will be proudly showcased during a celebration weekend which will be open to the public. By then we will also have created a web archive, recording the journey of the project, along with some historical documentation linking back to reveal and compare how Par Bay has dealt with other pandemics in the past.
We have been planning the project for several months, feeing that the community needed something positive to turn to, and after speaking directly to local residents we have been left in no doubt that it is exactly what they want and actually urgently require right now. People’s responses on Promotion Day made it very clear that the drought of creative and social outlets throughout lockdown has impacted quite severely on many, and these individuals are even more eager to explore our project’s safe and creative pathways to socialising, interacting and sharing experiences with others. This was all further underlined by the sheer volume of people who have registered to take part in the project. The promotion day was a delightful success with many people signing up on the spot at our three venues, and we are excited to see these numbers continuing to increase via our online sign-up questionnaire which can be found at: https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/LBLTJ8T
There’s nothing left now but to GET GOING AND HAVE SOME FUN!
This large creative project has been made possible by the fully funded support of Create Civic Change who are behind us all the way.
