Poetry workshop write-up

It was great to get our workshop going again tonight, and so lovely to see everyone after our break.

Our writing exercise: Reflecting me, encouraged the group to describe a space which is very personal to them, for example, a favourite chair or desk. It worked well as it gave people the opportunity to write about past experiences or remain in the present. Jeff wrote a brilliant poem about his school desk which truly brought the scene to life for all of us – I could even envisage the grain in the wood! Freda wrote about her favourite arm chair and ended her poem on a real cliff-hanger with one word: ‘Prepared’, and we could all feel the anticipation as the computer games are about to start.

For the second exercise we did picture inspired writing, using a painting of a swing and this brought forth some similar ideas although via very different images, interestingly the poems all picked up on solitude.

Really looking forward to getting all of these wonderful words typed up for everyone to read.

Have a look at the poems in our gallery or check out our Facebook page www.facebook.com/groups/poetryfromparbay/
